I’ve always had the desire to learn to surf, it’s kind of weird that I never did since I grew up going to the ocean, but I guess it’s just not as common on the East Coast – I don’t think I ever saw someone on a real surfboard until I went to Hawaii in like 2009. Anyway, a few years ago this place called City Surf opened up – it’s a workout that takes place on this fake surfboards. I’m not sure why, exactly, but hey – seemed like fun! And a good way to try out being on a board! And maybe when I got the actual chance, I would suck a little less!
For one reason or another, I never went – when it opened I had just injured my knee and was on crutches (so, y’know, valid excuse.). I spent the next couple of years thinking I tore something – ACL, meniscus, etc. – only to ultimately get diagnosed with osteoarthritis. Lost weight, gained weight, etc. but never made the time or found the confidence to go…..and then just yesterday I found out it closed. Granted it still exists in a few other cities (Dallas, New Orleans….I think El Paso?) but that’s hardly convenient for a workout.

So yeah, I’m sad and full of regret that I never made the time or found the “fuck it” to just go. Thinking about all the other stuff I want to try, I need to get on it.

"People ask me what I do in the winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring."
