Happy Friday the 13th!

I was dragging this morning, couldn’t get out of bed until 5, didn’t get to the gym until 6, and by a pure stroke of luck I got a squat cage right away for deadlifts. Not that I wanted to do them, lol. It took a long time to wake up, despite taking Vyvanse this morning, and the last two days I was exhausted and definitely struggled with eating (Wednesday I binged. It was sort of planned, I went out to dinner with a friend but then I ate a ton of crap after. That part was not planned. There is still some work to do to break these habits, it seems.)

In other news, I came across a graphic that said there is a 60%-70% reduction in energy expenditure per day in the last century, which is the equivalent of 5-10 miles per day! And I believe it, I’ve been on a kick of reading these books that were written in the late 19th century and just describing the amount of walking people did, even the rich, was a lot. I was looking at my trends in Apple Health and for sure the amount I walk in a day is way down – 3.5 miles, down from an average of 4. I definitely noticed it went down when I started working from home at the beginning of the pandemic – you don’t think about how you walk a few steps to your car, a few steps to your desk, a few steps to the break room, etc. But I was annoyed at my trend going down – I mean, I go to barn a lot! I walk with my horse! WTF! So I went back and looked at Wednesday, a day I did not take Vyvanse, but still closed all my rings….

1.8 miles. ONE. POINT. EIGHT. MILES. No wonder that arrow is trending way down! I hardly moved at all!

It made me think about the fact that I’m fighting against a very sedentary lifestyle, and no matter how much planned exercise I get, I’m still burning less over all. So I’m going to try to incorporate more steps in my day, not necessarily more deliberate walking, but more like doing a bit of house work, taking out the trash more, etc. – just to get more general steps in.
