We do not tell our horses to do anything. They are 1200+ pound animals capable at any moment of saying “Go fuck yourself” and there is nothing we can do about it.

We ask horses to do things for us, and because they love us and we feed them and they love cookies and they genuinely have a good work ethic, they do these things.

The best rides are the ones on horses you’ve bonded with. You can love all horses, but the one that is truly yours – that runs to the gate when you walk up, that nuzzles you while you getting groomed, that knows which foot you are going to clean next and picks it up for you – that horse will inspire you to be better, will teach you to be better.

Your horse is your partner. Riding is about the connection between the two of you.

Time spent with your horse out of the saddle is more important than time spent in the saddle.

Always, always – squish the nose.

Quote of the week

"People ask me what I do in the winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring."
